We are seeking an experienced and motivated Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment used in construction, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, and other machinery. This field-based role requires mechanical expertise, the ability to troubleshoot in the field, and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring equipment is in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other machinery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues in the field.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
- Use specialized tools and equipment to repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
- Communicate effectively with equipment operators, supervisors, and other team members regarding issues, repairs, and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company protocols at all times.
- Provide input and recommendations on equipment improvements or modifications for enhanced performance.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a mechanic working with heavy equipment, preferably in construction or a similar field.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a variety of heavy equipment in the field with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to various work sites; CDL preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
- Welding certification and experience with computerized diagnostic tools are a plus.
Work Environment:
- Field-based role with regular travel to job sites, sometimes in remote or rugged locations.
- Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and working on large machinery.
